The Twelve Orders: Prophets

The king's legacy: 'These sought nothing short of the starry pole; those sensed the dark of the unknown behind. They came together and were known as Prophets: That is, those who are mouthpieces to reveal the hidden designs of the Highest.'

(We may call them Prophets and Diviners, for some of them - the Prophets - express direct revelation, while others - the Diviners - use patterns, omens and occurrences to discern the workings of this knowledge.)

A prophet proclaims: 'Prophets stand outside the social order, alone if needs be. We discern what is beyond us, lest we simply feed back to the people what they know already - or what they want to hear. We embody this knowledge as best we can through word or image, preserving in it the fire of the Creative Impulse. We are not ourselves creators, though our visions and pronouncements may have originality and intensity. Sometimes we need interpreters, to make sense of what we disclose.'

Prophets and Diviners may work with techniques, especially diviners, but they are not enslaved by them, and there is always a channel kept open for intuition and revelation.
