A messenger pauses to explain the task: 'Messengers carry the news from one place to another. It's not always good news, so we are not always welcome where we go. Our message may be of peace or of war, but we are never the originators of the news, always the carriers. We have to remember each message precisely and deliver it accurately. It's not our job to colour what we convey, but on the other hand, it's up to each messenger to decide what authority to work under. So we are answerable only to the source of our mission, and to the integrity of the news we carry.'
Messengers may, however, be tricky customers. They can move fast, be elusive, speak in many different ways, and leave little clue to their identity.
