The Twelve Orders: Law-givers

The king's legacy: 'Those who enquire into roots and causes, and those whose gaze travels forwards to clear horizons were brought together and named the Law-givers.'

A law-giver pronounces on the work of the order: 'Law-givers discern patterns and wholeness. We look to something greater in order to prescribe for the lesser. We weigh, and consider what is possible, so as to govern, judge and order. We recognise the impermanence of things. We are dedicated to the harmonious ordering of human society, both now and in the future.'

Law-givers recognise both eternal and temporal law, and know that what can be defined in this world is only an approximation of the truth. Law-givers may work not only in legal but also in religious, scientific and academic fields. They give weight and substance to knowledge.
