I don't know much about the first hundred years of the Order of Christ,
prior to Prince Henry's mastership. The masters of the order in the period
were:
- D. Gil Martins, the first Master, from 1318.
- D. João Lourenço
- D. Martim Gonçalves Leitao
- D. Estevão Gonçalves Leitao
- D. Rodrigo Anes
- D. Nuno Rodrigues - during his time, in 1357, the order made its permanent
headquarters in Tomar
- D. Lopo Dia de Sousa, the last master before Prince Henry (who was made
governor in 1420).
